I didn't want to be the first to post, but I was bored and...
Character Name: Khepra Tsaorvae
Race: Human
Class:Barbarian / Fighter
Age: 27
Appearance Details:
Khepra stands nearly 5'4, sporting an athletic and curvy build. Her once long, white hair has recently been cut to rest upon her shoulders and gently frame the soft features of her face. While powerful in stance and build, Khepra is quite attractive and in the past, has shown that she isn't very shy when displaying her curves and womenly features. And as openly as she displays her body, anyone would be able to notice the x-shaped scar over her heart.
Black and red tattoos depicting images of conflict and struggle adorn her skin; marking her arms and the entirety of her right leg. These tattoos once marked her as a follower of Chaosmous, but now they serve as a sore reminder.
Personality:
She maintains an air of dignity and confidence - almost to the point of arrogance. She is quick to pitch in with a smarmy remark or a quip at those around her, but rarely does she mean any true harm. Headstrong and stubborn, she is prone to making - at her own admission - terrible decisions for what she believes is right. The way to hell is paved with good intentions, I suppose.
Her understanding of right and wrong has been flawed in the recent past, and has become a point of growth for her. Months before, she would have rallied at the chance to fight and die gloriously in battle - with little regard for those around her. However, something has been pulling at her in recent days to warrant such a drastic change.
She is quick to make light of a terrible situation. Sometimes, too quick. More often than not she has met blood, gore and trials with a grin and her scythe, only to bury the weight of the moment beneath layers of alcohol and forced non-chalance. There are a few things that have earned her ire, directly, but they are few in number.
Khepra stands tall and meets her foe's gaze directly, parading under the illusion of fearlessness and bravado... But anyone who looks deep enough would realize most, if not all, of this is an elaborate, well-rehearsed ruse.
Background:
Sired by a wealthy merchant, and mothered by the daughter of a barbarian shaman, Khepra was born into a life of comfort and wealth. Maxim, her father, traded in rare and exotic spices and herbs. His success and the demand for his spices eventually took him to the island of Aisho for a short time. Beneath the harmless front of the spice market, he dabbled in the slave trade. Her mother, Savra, grew up with strength and survival on her heart and mind; having come from a tribe of barbarians on the mainland. When her tribe was wiped out by a warring tribe, she escaped her captors and found herself in Vadriphose, where she met and eventually married Maxim. Carrying on the now-dead tradition of her tribe, Savra honored and revered Chaosmous, and dedicated her life to it's teachings. Her hope was that one day it would recognize and call out to her; a goal and hope she later passed on to Khepra.
Although Savra loved Maxim deeply, she held her devotion to her tribe's teachings far above her loyalty to her husband - but all of this paled in comparison to the love she had for her daughter. When Maxim fell in with another ring of slave traders, he found himself met with an ultimatum; deliver them his white-haired daughter, or be slain. Odd as that seemed, Savra and Maxim did not, in fact, have white hair. Khepra was born terribly ill and weak, but when she recovered, her pale-white hair was all that remained to indicate that she had ever been sick.
Weak and cowardly as he was, Maxim caved quickly. He would have handed Khepra over to them, if Savra had not stopped him. The details provided to Khepra were intentionally hazy and vague, but it was clear the Savra had handled Maxim's betrayal and cowardice the best way she knew how; with blood and steel. She then took Khepra from Aisho and they returned to the mainland, where she raised her until she was eleven.
The time came, Savra claimed, where Khepra would have to find a mentor and earn her place in the world. Savra reconnected with a former ally of her tribe, a weapon master by the name of Arrenius. She left Khepra in his care with only one set of instructions; earn glory and fame for herself in such a way, that her name would be heard all across the world. Only when Khepra's name reached Savra in tales of battle and heroism would she call Khepra home. She told her daughter it was a rite of passage and a coming of age trial for followers of Chaosmous - a claim anyone else would recognize as a lie. Khepra adored and admired her mother's strength and dedication, and aspired to be in the same vein of savagery and prowess as Savra. Because of this, she was oblivious to her mother's deception, and left with Arrenius to begin her training. Arrenius introduced Khepra to many methods of combat, but the scythe earned her favor, and she began training solely with that weapon when she was sixteen.
Sixteen years of intense training molded her into the warrior she is today, stringing her through bouts of mercenary and private security work all across the mainland. To this day, she still has not seen her mother, and the truth behind Savra's decision has not been made known to her.
Recent History:
Khepra has changed quite a bit since she came to Saphage. She has since renounced her once-proud devotion to Chaosmous, and openly admitted she is prepared to face retribution from both her mother and mentor.
She has also sworn an oath to the paladin Diakonos; To stand by and fight at his side, regardless of where that takes them, aiding him in his own personal quest while she finds her new place in the world. They form a symbiotic pair; he supports her search for change just as she supports his own.
In the encounter with the devil Khilesitex, he demanded everyone present sign his contract, including the paladin - and threatened to devour the soul of Frin, a Halfling Khepra has grown to be fiercely protective of. In return for the devil excusing Diakonos from the contract, and sparing Frin's soul (unless the lot of them fail to uphold their end of the bargain), Khepra offered herself as the devil's consort as part of the deal - to which he accepted.
Other Factoids/Misc:
-She once earned the attention of the matron of a newly-formed Drow house, and served as the matron's eyes and ears on the surface, and temporary executioner. She served the house so long as they would tolerate a surface dweller in their midst, and quickly made her departure when the time came. The matron's second-son sought to slay his mother and escape the Underdark in hopes of repentance, so he confided in Khepra for her help. She betrayed him, and slew him at his mother's feet.
-She is responsible for the framing and public execution of an innocent man in Vadriphose - the event that began the line of thinking that eventually prompted her to renounce Chaosmous.
-She gives as much as she is able to the orphanage in Treegum, but usually under the cover of night or when there are no prying eyes to see her enter the orphanage. She tries her best to hide her service there, but she has grown to love spending time with the children.
-Khepra hates magic. She tolerates it only when it's obviously on her side, but even then, she is wary of it backfiring or affecting her in some way.
-Her surname is that of her mother, and thus, the name of her mother's fallen tribe.
(I welcome any conflicting opinions or thoughts on my use of the Bruehawk lore. It's rusty, but I drew from as many sources as I could find! I'm also open to discussing RP hooks regarding her backstory and such.)
