The World of Mel'heron
It is now the year 7232RB by the neo-Wravinian calendar;
It is 11,407 years since the creation of Mel'heron by the God of Gods Vadriphose, Lord of All; 7407 years since the appearance of the moon Gaunt and the arrival of the Dark Saints on Mel'heron, heralding the destruction of the written history of the Old Times; 7281 years since the deaths of the Forgotten Gods Pad'le, Micammsi, Dresh and Titandor at the hands of Melagaunt the God Slayer; 7232 years since the First Defeat of Melagaunt the God Slayer and the Thousand Year Slumber of the Gods; 7206 years since the Elves and Dwarves led an attempted genocide on the race of Men, believing their violent nature posed a threat to global stability; 7198 years since the Grenn Warchief Ka'lobo led his army against their genocide and saved the race of Men; 6232 years since the Five Old Gods, Vadriphose, Sapherian, Galatus, Spelldar and D'lam, along with the force of nature Chaosmous, awoke, expanding their powers and creating many new Gods and demi Gods in the process; 5162 years since Vadriphose stripped the demi God Shard, Lady of Wishes, of her powers and made her mortal; 4660 years since the destruction of Azule; 4638 years since Wravain the God-touched became King of Vadri; 4633 years since Wravain the God-touched formed what would become the modern day Vadriyan Empire; 4250 years since the end of the Three Hundred Year War between the Vadriyan Empire and the Thrun Core, with the Vadriyan Empire forcing a stalemate; 3784 years since the end of the Outsider War, which saw the many peoples of Mel'heron defeat the armies of Yazard and Deagothia; 2010 years since Skearus ascended to Godhood, slaying the Old God Galatus and opening the way for the demi Gods Ra'ma and O'ma to also rise to Godhood; 321 years since the foundation of the town of Elumbrae; 211 years since the foundation of the town of Treegum, the awakening of the demon Orgogorn and the Bruehawk lineage's pledge to protect Treegum for all time; 45 years since the start of in-game events; 34 years since the end of the Thrun War; 32 years since the death of Wravain the God-touched, who lived for more than 4600 years; 26 years since the end of the Drow War; 21 years since Andrea Kynslayer of the Silver Dawn closed the rift at Elumbrae following the defeat of the corrupted Second Emperor Galigas; 17 years since Elumbrae was sufficiently rebuilt for the last of the survivors to be returned home; 16 years since Third Emperor Kaladorian and Lord Abner Artorius restored the Bruehawk lineage and mere weeks since the sack of Vadriphose City.
Valiyus
The Vadriyan Empire is in turmoil. The economic, cultural and political capital, Vadriphose City, has been sacked. Third Emperor Kaladorian, his queen, Emmeline, and their children, and many of his closest advisors and generals are missing, feared dead.
A mysterious foe calling himself the Emperor of Light has occupied the Imperial capital and destroyed the bulk of the Imperial Guard. This invading warlord proclaims all non-humans must submit to slavery or be slain and that the pantheon of gods is false, and must no longer be worshipped. Instead, he worships only one true God.
The scars wrought upon the Empire by the reign of Second Emperor Galigas have healed and the civil strife has ended. Those kingdoms loyal to the Empire had rebuilt their armies in the intervening years, but rumours abound that most are in retreat or barely holding the line as the Emperor of Light’s forces spread out from the capital to take more ground.
The Imperial Guard are no longer exclusively seen in Vadriphose City and until this latest crisis, the Emperor's personal force of knights secured the roads at the heart of the Imperium; their black and blue colours are once more a welcome sight across the Empire. Now, they are seen more fleetingly, recalled for the war effort.
Since the fall of the Inquistion, the uncompromising blades of the Empire, the black market trade in slaves and dangerous magical artifacts has begun to re-establish itself in Valiyus.
In the 13 years since the new trade contract with the Sherillion Empire, Falighns of all kind, not just merchants, are now a more common sight in Vadriyan lands. Some have even been seen in Saphage.
Saphage
The land of Saphage has enjoyed eight years of stability, but the dark could of war is on the horizon once again. Imperial forces were sighted fleeing to Port Treegum from the sack of Vadriphose City and it is feared the fighting will spread here if not halted on the mainland.
Closer to home, the blood-rage menace is over. Though, in the past 11 years many have speculated that the so-called 'Age of Heroes' is coming to an end, with fewer adventurers, champions and warriors stepping up to defend the lands. As such, the knights and common guards are becoming more combat-experienced than ever before, while the legal trade in magical artifacts has dropped off, with less new discoveries in ancient crypts and less adventurers buying them. Still, the lands are not completely forgotten, and some heroes still walk Saphage.
The port city of Cadbridge, ruled by Duchess Melissa Carrington, is home to 68,000 people and is the trading centre of Saphage. It remains a staunch ally of the Vadriyan Empire and is the seat for the Imperial presence in the land. It has now fully regained the prosperity it lost due to the blood-rage menace.
The trade town of Elumbrae, ruled by its ancestral lord, Baron Allerick Caen, has long since been rebuilt after much of it was destroyed by the rift to the Abyss opened there by Orgogorn. The refugees have reintegrated themselves back into the city, shops are prosperous, and with a population of around 7000, along with thousands more living in numerous outlying farms and hamlets, the town has found a new market in enchanted wares. Alas, these shops have been hardest hit by the wane in the 'Age of Heroes'.
Treegum, the site of so much turmoil, strife and conflict over the years, is ruled by Lord Abner Artorius, dubbed Highlord Bruehawk by ancient tradition, and has managed quite well these past years without the aid of its one-time elected council, which he disbanded to a mix of anger and applause. It has a growing population of around 2,500. From the time of the Thrun War it has been a base of operations for the Imperial Guard in numerous conflicts, but is now protected by its traditional warriors, the Treegum Knights and Guards, whose numbers stand at close to 1000. The town knew a short period of peace in recent years, but at the start of the year suffered great damage when a ship packed with an explosive concoction crashed into the harbour, severely diminishing the town's sea trade and economy, both magical and non-magical.
Other places of interest in the land of Saphage include the desert settlement of Silverdune, which lies beyond the control of the Vadriyan Empire and is a hub of criminal activity; Thistle Thicket, one of many Halfling communities that exist deep within the forests of the land; Eveningfall, the only Elven community in Saphage that the Elves have revealed to outsiders, ruled by its Council of Elders; Stormhold, a mighty Dwarven Hall ruled by the noble King Anger; Whitechapel, a former sanatorium, now home to undead forces of evil, near Treegum; Woodstead, a small farming community, three weeks ride south-east of Treegum; and Hydra Head, the island settlement, long said to be under control of the feared crime syndicate the Black Lotus.
Much of Saphage has remained uncharted by Vadriyan Empire cartographers due to the vast territory under the control of the warlike Greenskins, a large expanse of inhospitable desert and treacherous mountain ranges. While many unnamed Human hamlets exist around Treegum, Elumbrae and Cadbridge, other races and creatures undoubtedly have further settlements of their own that have yet to be charted.
