Rumors begin to reach Treegum that the trees in the forests south of the town seem to be afflicted by some sort of poisonous vine. Indeed, inspection of the trees reveals that an odd vine growing up from the ground has wrapped itself tightly around the trunks of many of the trees. When touched, the vines seem to secrete and odd black substance that rapidly wither parts of the tree until it eventually dies. Many dead trees litter the Eveningfall Forest, completely encased in the odd vine.
The only parts of forest that seem undisturbed is the thick treeline that surrounds Eveningfall itself. Due to the way the vine seems to constrict itself around the tree trunks, travelers and locals alike have come to call it the 'Snakevine'.

Three Imperial Warships sit anchored off the coast of Treegum. After a group of Imperial soldiers and Knights arrived by way of rowboat and spoke briefly with Lieutenant Kane of the Treegum Guard the group marched into the courthouse. Observers noted that the Knights and Soldiers all looked beaten and battered, armor covered in grime. It didn't take long until a most chilling rumor began to circulate throughout the town.
The city of Vadriphose, capital of the Empire, has been sacked.

Several locals begin to speculate what "sacked" means.
"How much of it is gone? All? Some? Why is there no public announcement, or news coming out of the official quarters or the papers?"
Currently, the local concern seems to be about if Treegum could be a potential target in the near future, and also, what is the status for current local defenses, and is Treegum even ready to receive refugees?
((We players are just curious ;P Hehe, we get the DM team isn't as big was before, so no pressure.))

Over the next few days more rumors seem to circulate through the public. How much is true information and how much is speculation is hard to say. Word is that a massive army of unknown origins lay siege to the Imperial capital city of Vadriphose. The garrison was caught unawares and reinforcements from other Imperial strongholds as well as ally strongholds were cut off. The city has been occupied and the state of the local populace is unknown.
All seem to be in agreement that Emperor Kaladorian was not present during the siege though his whereabouts remain unknown.
Closer to home, the townsfolk of Treegum witnessed two of the warships anchored off the coast depart one late afternoon. Five days later, one ship arrived in Elumbrae and the other in Cadbridge, both ships having made exceptional time to their destinations.
Little else is known, the Courthouse in Treegum remaining locked and now under heavy guard by Imperial soldiers. One thing is certain... something big is happening.

In a rather stunning display of might, both the Baron of Elumbrae and the Duchess of Cadbridge arrived in Treeum by ship this past night. Obviously here in preparation for the summit, both individuals were seen being let into the heavily guarded courthouse. Their entourage consisting of both Elumbraen Guard and Cadbridge Knights have temporarily taken up residence in the old Imperial garrison just south of the town.

The great Treegum Summit has ended. During it's proceedings the Duchess of Cadbridge spoke about the turmoil currently occurring on the mainland. A great Warlord calling himself the Emperor of Light has not only laid siege to the Imperial capitol city of Vadriphose but also successfully destroyed the garrison and occupied the city. The population of Imperial citizens is trapped within. Worse, this Warlord is said to follow a new religion - one that preaches the superiority of the Human race and decrees that all non-Humans - be they Elves, Dwarves, and even the darker races - must submit to a live of slavery or be slain. This religion claims that there is only one god, and the deities worshiped by the Vadriyan Empire are but false beings. Still, even with this information there were those at the summit heard to be claiming that perhaps this Warlord was some sort of Ra'mite heretic. Either way, his armies have been spreading out from the conquered city presumably with the intent of occupying more land.
More troubling to Treegum itself, Lord Bruehawk was not present for the summit. Sir Ike and Sir Randel, seeming to act as guardians of the town in his stead, informed the gathered crowd that Lord Bruehawk has come down with an illness and this explains his absence for so long. This news comes from Treegum keep itself, but even so there were those in the crowd murmuring of darker deeds, and indeed questioning why the supposed illness of one man explains the complete absence of his court or any other governing body of the town.
The Summit ended with questions from the townsfolk and adventurers alike, with the Duchess giving what answers she had. Baron Allerick Caen was noticeably silent for much of the proceedings.
In the end, the Duchess and Baron returned to their respective cities with their entourage. The Imperial forces that originally arrived in Treegum remain garrisoned just outside the town. In order to bolster the town's border defenses, Sir Ike and Sir Randel have authorized the the newly formed Vanguard Protection Services, a mercenary band, to assist in patrolling the wilderness areas outside of the town once they meet his required regulations.

Over the last few days a number of Treegum Knights have been seen loitering about the town square as well as the large interior of the Valor's Vale. Word quickly spreads that these Knights have been banished from the Keep and it's grounds, though the reason why remains a mystery. None of them seem willing to say any more then that.
